Engagement sessions are one of my favorite parts of the wedding photography journey. They’re relaxed, fun, and incredibly meaningful. It's a chance for couples to press pause, connect with each other, and celebrate this exciting chapter before the big day. Though I don't photograph many weddings at this current time, I still get the pleasure of doing some engagement and couples sessions throughout the year.
Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing these two, whose love story came to life in every frame. We met just before golden hour at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford, where the light was soft, the breeze was gentle, and the vibe was perfect.
Engagement photos aren’t just about pretty pictures (although we’ll definitely get those too!). They serve a few important purposes:
Connection – It gives you a chance to be photographed before your wedding day. You’ll get comfortable in front of a lens and can get a feel for what's to come on the big day.
Personalization – Unlike the structured nature of a wedding day, engagement shoots allow for more creativity. Want to bring your dog? Wear matching denim jackets? Head to the coffee shop where you had your first date? Let’s do it. I loved that this couple added in their cowboy/cowgirl boots to this session to personalize it a bit!
Memories – These photos mark the beginning of your forever. They’ll be cherished in albums, displayed at your wedding, or used for save-the-dates.
